Relief for Sudanese Refugees

2026 Fall Appeal Letter

Dear Friend,

There are times when news from the field causes us to rejoice alongside the chorus of Heaven as lives are saved, souls are reached with the gospel, and communities are transformed by the hope of Jesus.

But we also witness the other side of the story.

Our teams often carry reports of unimaginable suffering. These stories are difficult to hear, but we must not turn away. Galatians 6:2 calls us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Recently, we received devastating news from our Strategic Outpost Leader serving in Sudan. He shared with me horrific images and heartbreaking accounts of violence unfolding around the Nuba Mountains as refugees flee for their lives. 

Our leader shared: “A tribal attack is ongoing and lives have already been lost. Families are grieving, communities are in fear, and the land is bleeding.”

As I write, more than 1,500 believers have been slaughtered. Yes, friends. Slaughtered. 

For decades, the peoples of the Nuba Mountains have endured systematic violence, displacement and attempts to erase their communities and culture. During the 1990s, government forces and allied militias attacked villages, restricted humanitarian relief and drove families from their land. And although it has raged on for years, some of the worst atrocities have taken place in recent days. 

The goal is genocide.

The Nuba Mountains are home to 84 distinct nations. According to Joshua Project, 75 remain unreached, representing more than two million people with little or no access to the gospel. This is not only a humanitarian crisis. It is also a spiritual battleground where millions still need the hope of Jesus. 

Our leader explained, “When the Arabs in Northern Sudan realized they could not defeat the unified Nuba people in war, they devised another strategy to entice them into fighting each other.” 

Today, families are fleeing for their lives, and survivors are sheltering in caves and rocky clefts. One of our indigenous missionaries narrowly escaped an attack after awakening in the middle of the night to flames. 

“I jumped through the window. When I came out, I found that everywhere was covered with fire.” 

Our leaders have sent an urgent appeal: 

“I write to you with a heavy heart and with an urgent plea to stand with the people of the Nuba Mountains and our new converts who are facing unimaginable hardship. Communities are cut off, and access to food, medical care and shelter has become critically scarce. Due to the urgency of the circumstances, we cannot afford to wait.” 

Friend, we are not called to turn away. We are called to carry these burdens together, to pray and to respond with compassion. The families of Christians who have been killed urgently need our support. 

Our leaders on the ground have requested $50,000 to provide food, emergency shelter, trauma counseling and medical care for the injured, as well as portable tents for refugee families who have lost everything. That amounts to $33 for every person who has lost their life in this most recent incident.
