Sudan Testimony

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. An image can convey complex meaning with depth often more effectively than a verbal description.

Two sets of images were provided by our Strategic Outpost Leader in Sudan, which tell the full story of faith in this region.

The first were photos of Muslim-background believers stepping into the water for baptism.

Their joy was unmistakable. Faces lit up, smiles stretching from ear to ear, as they publicly, courageously declared their faith in Jesus Christ.

In the same thread of messages came a very different set of photos.

A small indigenous church burned to the ground during the night. Nothing remained but brick benches and partially standing, charred walls. This is the reality these believers live with.

They place their faith in Jesus, knowing it comes with real risk to their safety, their homes, and their places of worship.

One of our indigenous missionaries in Sudan was forced to flee the war and escape to South Sudan, settling in a refugee camp. Even there, persecution followed. The church in the camp was burned to the ground by an unknown group. Thankfully, no lives were lost. Still, tensions remain high. Some in the region are angry that the church continues its work.

Even as believers in South Sudan face severe persecution from armed groups targeting churches, pastors, and believers, the pictures show the beauty of transformation and hope. Hope draws others in because the contrast between hatred and love is stark.

Thank you for standing with believers in Sudan and South Sudan as they live out their gospel story. Please continue to pray for their protection, perseverance, and boldness.
