Tharu Testimony

Near the border of India and Nepal, where most still have little or no access to the gospel, a quiet transformation is unfolding that a watching village cannot ignore.

Our Strategic Outpost Leader and his team of indigenous missionaries serving among the majority Hindu Tharu people, share the story of a couple long known for suffering. For years, the husband was paralyzed and confined to his bed, his condition unchanged.

“We visited and prayed for him,” the missionary said. “For a long time, they didn’t open their hearts.”

In regions like this, spiritual resistance often runs deep. Unknown Nations focuses on these frontier areas, where the name of Jesus is rarely heard, and both physical and spiritual opposition can be strong.

But as we kept showing up and getting to know people, something began to change.

“He was always in bed,” the missionary said. After he gave his heart to Jesus, “He (was) walking slowly around the house. Everyone was surprised in the village.”

The man’s recovery captured the attention of those around him. In a culture where stories travel quickly and eyewitness accounts carry weight, his healing has become a powerful testimony.

“There was control by the devil,” the missionary observed, adding, “Now the whole village is thinking and watching his activities. He is telling them (about Jesus). We are praying for (him) to be completely healed.”

As neighbors observe what they cannot easily explain, questions form. Hearts that were once closed are now softening. In a place where few have ever heard the Good News, this moment is opening a door for the gospel.

“...God is working among their eyewitnesses,” says the missionary.

What began as one man’s suffering is now becoming something much greater. His story is stirring curiosity, prompting conversations, and pointing others beyond himself.

In a region where the gospel is still largely unknown, one changed life becomes an invitation for an entire village to see, to wonder, and a seed to believe.
